This small list of brand domains represents less than one eighth of around 680 pending applications. The potential collective impact on the internet is significant — given the immense resources and market power of these global corporations.

The .goodyear Dot Brand

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is one of the world's leading tire manufacturers with 1,400 tire and auto service center outlets and around 73,000 full-time and temporary employees. It makes tires for most applications and makes rubber-related chemicals. Goodyear has 53 manufacturing facilities in 22 countries.

Goodyear intends to create a connected digital space for clients and partners and facilitate secure interaction and communication with them. The TLD will also deliver a personalized brand experience to stakeholders and improve business operations.

It will also provide new opportunities for marketing & advertising. "Goodyear believes outreach and communication will be critical to building trust and confidence in the legitimacy of the TLD."

The .goodyear string will simplify navigation to Goodyear online content. It will validate and authenticate Goodyear resellers. The restricted nature of the TLD will "increase client confidence and trust in conducting business online". Goodyear also expects to be able to further streamline and improve client service delivery and satisfaction. The new TLD will give Goodyear "a new platform on which to build future innovation of its online brand presence".

The very nature of the closed registry means .goodyear websites will be differentiated from cybersquatters and the like by being seen to be authorized — the new branded websites will be understood to be genuine destinations of the brand owner.

During the launch of its brand TLD, Goodyear will reserve country & territory names with geographic significance as outlined by the requirements in Specification 5 of the New TLD Registry Agreement.

Goodyear has manufacturing facilities in 22 countries and sells products in almost every country in the world.

The Applicant intends to work with the relevant parties and governments concerned to enable geographic domains such as USA.goodyear to be utilized. "Registry operator will work with respective GAC representatives of the country's relevant Ministry of Department to obtain their release of the names to the Registry Operator."
